Dubai (Al-Ittihad) – A successful medical intervention has saved a young Emirati child from deformities caused by swallowing chemical substances. The 2-year-old Emirati child, Rashid, received successful treatment from Professor Jehad Al Sukhun, a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Mediclinic Hospital, after suffering deformities in his palate and both upper and lower lips, as well as severe adhesions inside his oral cavity due to accidentally swallowing household chemicals commonly used to open drains.

Professor  Al Sukhun commented on the child’s case, saying, “We performed a complex series of surgeries to restore the natural shape of the upper and lower lips and the palate. Although no emergency surgery was performed on the child at the time of the incident, the procedure we carried out enabled Rashid to speak again and eat normally from the first day after the surgery.”

For his part, the child’s father said, “Our child lost 4 to 5 kilograms of his weight because he couldn’t eat or drink properly before the surgery. We thank God that Rashid left the hospital after ten days without any surgical complications.”
